Workplace Resolutions

Mediation is an effective way of resolving issues at work before a formal grievance starts or it becomes a costly dispute without the need to go to court or Tribunal. It involves an independent third party – a mediator – who can get to the causes behind the conflict to fix them and reach an agreement.

The success rate for mediation is high at 70-80% but even if mediation is not successful, the confidential discussions can often lead to a resolution at a later date, again without litigation.

Our qualified Mediators are accredited by CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) Accreditation, internationally recognised as the standard of excellence.

HR Medical Specialists

HR Medical Specialists are more cost-effective and commercially focused than an Occupational Health Specialist. They are not bound by ‘medical in confidence’ and work in partnership with the employer.

Our HR Medical Specialists are all HR Consultants with a medical background and specialist knowledge in physiotherapy, mental health, occupational health or social work.

They can also step in and work with you before absences become recurrent or long term through early intervention. They can assess workplace health and well-being, both physical and mental, to prevent future or repetitive absences. This can be especially relevant if an employee is suffering from an illness such as stress while working. With our HR Medical Specialists on board, they can assess the situation and aim to prevent the absence escalating or loosing a valuable member of staff.

Our HR Medical Specialists can help you ensure that you have:

  • Accurate records of absenteeism
  • Contact with your employee maintained
  • Cost effective workplace adjustments investigated and implemented
  • Investigated the legitimacy and cause of the absence
  • Alternative cost effective solutions or treatments to achieve an earlier return to work
  • Return to work plans devised, agreed, implemented and reviewed

Proactive Absence Management

As an employer, you will know that employees may need to take time off  due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. However, absences from work can have a major effect on productivity, finances and team morale and so managing these absences effectively is critical for your business.

We developed PAM (Proactive Absence Management) to help you achieve that. We can help you implement proven strategies to monitor, control and reduce absences. We can step in to take on difficult cases of long-term absence and, if necessary, utilise our legal expertise to manage an employee’s departure from the business in a fair and legally sound manner.

Carrying out return to work meetings (RWM) is an essential aspect of managing absence. An effective RWM is proven to be a cost effective management tool to reduce both the number of episodes and the length of time taken off sick. Employers often find these meetings hard to conduct, partially concerned about saying the wrong thing and partially being time-poor. We developed our HR Medical Specialist service in direct response to working with our clients to manage this process for you.

Wellness Checks & Healthy Working

We work with employers to ensure they invest in the health and wellness of their staff.

Our team of dedicated medical professionals provide Well Person Checks for Individuals and Employers that identify personal risk for the five biggest killers in the UK: heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and some forms of dementia.

Results of wellness checks are presented in a confidential, easy to understand traffic light system along with advice and guidance on what to do next if an employee is at risk. In addition, we produce an anonymised report for the Employer to highlight the health of their staff.

Recommendations for change may include:

  • Whole company health & wellness campaigns
  • Walking meetings
  • Compulsory lunch breaks away from desks
  • Fitness activity trackers given to staff
  • Replacement healthy snacks and fresh foods in place of vending machines
  • A fixed timescale to review and track progress
  • Referrals
